info
Brush Arbor Press was founded in 1999 to develop workshops that addressed the legacy of slavery in American culture. We later expanded the services provided by Brush Arbor to include video production and publishing. Our goal has always been to create new approaches to meeting the spiritual and emotional needs of people.
In 2006, we published our first book: Your Sister Your Brother Your Neighbor Has AIDS, by Rev. Deborah E. Lake. This book has since helped many people with HIV/AIDS, their families, their churches, and communities, and is available for download at: deborahelake.com.
Brush Arbor Press became a subsidiary of Lake Enterprise in 2009, and extended services to include publishing and distribution for new authors, and small businesses. Our goal is to support new authors who have something important to share, who are not part of the mainstream, and who would not find a publisher easily.

What is a Brush Arbor?
During slavery people who were held to be unable to worship independently would steal away to quiet places in the woods where small structures built of saplings and branches had been build to accommodate religious worship. Thus the Brush Arbor was a place of religious and spiritual self- determination for African-Americans.
